Our rich holdings of photographic works tell vivid stories of photography's master practitioners and technological innovations, while demonstrating photography's ability to reveal the unseen and the unseeable. This special selection of photographs includes iconic names, such as Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange, and introduces viewers to the compelling works by other leaders of the medium.

'Reflections' is MoPA's fifth annual youth exhibition, bringing together the work of over 40 students from San Diego County. This year's theme encourages students to consider the concept of culture through the photographic medium, including still images, collage and film. In addition to providing a venue for MoPA visitors to recognize the talents, creativity, and concerns of San Diego youth, 'Reflections' also showcases the photographic works emerging from the photography and filmmaking programs offered by MoPA's Education Department, which reach thousands of San Diego students each year.

The exhibition presents a range of genres in photography, such as portraiture, abstraction, landscape, and still life.

This photography exhibition, a retrospective of Shelton's work, marks the first time works by the legendary geologist will be exhibited for the public. A geologist filled with a love for music and machines, John Shelton is best known for his pioneering aerial photography. Formerly an associate professor of geology at Pomona College, he has always been intensely interested in the process of learning. Shelton's love and knowledge of flying enabled him to reveal geologic features and processes through his aerial photographs of wondrous landscapes. His aerial photographs of North America are especially valuable today, when diminishing air quality makes some of his shots irreplaceable.

A gem isn't just a pretty bauble -- it's a rare and wonderful by-product of the tremendous forces that have shaped our planet. Discover how the same Earth processes that build landscapes produce dazzling gemstones and precious metals -- even right here in San Diego County, one of the most famous gem-producing regions in the world. The exhibition features a stunning selection of spectacular natural mineral crystals, exquisite jewelry, and works of art.

Examine the infrastructure of the regional water system, and discover how we import the majority of our water and the costs associated with this practice. 'Water: A California Story' also looks at effects of a changing climate on our region's water supply and reveals how southern Californians can help protect water for future generations. Natural history specimens and live animals will serve as reminders that the natural environment and its inhabitants are also legitimate users of water resources.
